POLICE investigating the murder of Dalton teenager Jason Ripley say the local community has been shocked by his death.
Former England schoolboy boxer Jason, 17, was left dying from stab wounds in a Sheepridge street on Thursday afternoon.
Trouble had flared at 2.10pm on Sheepridge Road, outside Jack Pearson's betting shop and the Pricecutter general store.
Jason was rushed to Huddersfield Royal Infirmary, where surgeons battled unsuccessfully to save his life.
He died at 7.30pm that evening.
Touching floral tributes have been laid at the scene by grieving friends and relatives.
Det Insp Ian Devey said the local community had been shocked by Jason's brutal murder.
He added: "We have had a positive response and are pleased.
"The community have been supportive to the investigation and recognise that this is something which needs to be resolved.
"We are still looking for people to come forward who were on Sheepridge Road between 1pm and 2.30pm and saw anything.
"We have got door-to- door inquiries in the area and the community have shown they want to assist us in bringing Jason's killer to justice."
Police are particularly anxious to speak to an African-Caribbean in his mid to late teens, who was wearing dark clothes and was spotted at the scene.
