A WOULD-be thief could be badly hurt after he cut through a live power cable.

A hacksaw was found embedded in the cable after power was cut to industrial units on Crossley Lane in Dalton shortly after 8pm on Monday.

A melted rubber glove was also found nearby.

The attempted theft follows similar cable thefts throughout Huddersfield as the world price of copper cable has soared in recent months.

Det Con Russ Conlon, of Kirklees CID intelligence unit, said: “It would appear this thief has stood on an iron girder while trying to cut through a live mains electric cable.

“This person will have received a massive electric shock and may also be burned. It goes without saying how highly dangerous cutting through any electric cables can be.’’
