A SUCCESSION of huge electricity bills has exasperated a 73-year-old Netherton man.

But the final straw for Tony Daykin, of Sandylands, came when energy supplier Npower threatened to take legal action.

For the past 15 months, Mr Daykin has been receiving huge bills every quarter - ranging between £200 and £3,500 - instead of the usual £15 to £20.

Now, he says enough is enough.

The bills relate to Mr Daykin's single car garage, for which he has a separate account with Npower.

Sometimes the large bills come under Mr Daykin's name and sometimes they are addressed to a Mr Robinson.

But the account number is always the same.

Mr Daykin said: "I have lived here since 1939. A Mr Robinson has never been at this address."

Occasionally, Mr Daykin has even received credit notes from Npower for up to £2,000.

Every time he has received an unusual bill, he has contacted Npower and staff have promised to sort out the problem.

He has also contacted Energy Watch about the problem but the bills have kept coming.

The most recent bill, on December 20, totalled £3,468.

Mr Daykin has not paid any of the unusual bills and has now received a letter from Npower saying that if he does not pay up, the company will consider legal action.

He said: "I've tried and tried and haven't made any difference.

"The problem started when Npower took over my account 15 months ago.

"As you can imagine it gets rather worrying."

A spokeswoman for Npower said: "We are looking into this and we are working with Energy Watch to resolve the issue."
