A shop worker tried to tackle a man who threatened him during a robbery in Dewsbury last night.

Seconds earlier the suspect had entered the Nisa store in Wakefield Road (formerly Hitch's newsagents) and approached the counter and demanded money.

The suspect grabbed cash from the till and the shopkeeper tried to tackle him but was pushed back into the alcohol shelves and fell to the floor.

The robber fled with cash. The shop worker was shaken but uninjured.

The robbery happened last night (Friday) shortly before 8pm.

Detectives are investigating the robbery and are urging anyone with information to come forward on 101.
