A shopkeeper suffered facial injuries after he was kicked and punched during a robbery in Paddock last night.

The incident happened at around 8pm when the male shopkeeper was just starting to close the shutters to the Gohar Supermarket in Market Street.

He was approached by two men who demanded cash.

He did not respond to them but as he moved to get away he tripped on the ramp outside the shop and fell to the ground.

The pair then kicked and punched him while he was on the ground then fled empty handed.

Detective Andy Leonard of Huddersfield CID said: “A 34-year-old man suffered bruising and grazes to his his face as a result of the attack which happened outside Gohar Supermarket in Church Street.

“At no-point did the victim respond to the suspects demands and it was as he was moving away from the door he tripped and was then kicked and punched in the face.”

Police are now investigating the incident and enquiries are ongoing.
