AN INQUEST has been opened into the death of a 23-year-old student who was shot outside a Dewsbury nightclub.

Michael Hanley, of Conway Avenue, Leeds, was killed outside Sheridan's Bar in Ravensthorpe in the early hours of December 27 last year.

The short hearing in Bradford was told that the cause of death was a gunshot wound to the abdomen.

Det Supt Philip Sedgewick told Coroner Roger Whittaker that inquiries were ongoing and although several people had been arrested, nobody had been charge with murder or any other offence.

Mr Whittaker said he was concerned that the bar had been open so late but Det Supt Sedgewick confirmed that they had a licence to open until 10am and had been legitimately open.

Mr Hanley had been at a party in Huddersfield before driving over to Ravensthorpe to go the club.

Mr Hanley's body was released for the funeral and Mr Whittaker adjourned the hearing until a date yet to be fixed.
