ORGANISERS are promising a tremendous atmosphere at one of Britain's top country events.

Preparations are underway for the 147th Great Yorkshire Show in Harrogate and organisers are hoping for a bumper visitor year to match the 124,502 who attended the event in 2004.

"The Great Yorkshire Show is a wonderful occasion for everyone," said honorary show director Christopher Hall. "It provides an opportunity to experience the best of the countryside and enjoy an entertaining day out."

This year's event from Tuesday, July 12, to Thursday, July 14, promises three days of animals, fashion shows, cookery demonstrations and hundreds of stalls.

There will also be a foot combat demonstration from the Royal Armouries and displays from the Royal Artillery Motorcycle Display Team.

The 240-acre site will also include thousands of horses, cattle, sheep, goats, poultry and pigs, an art exhibition, show jumping and fashion.

Tickets on the gate cost £16 for adults, £12 for concessions, £7 for children (five to 18 years) and £42 for a family ticket.

The ticket hotline number is 01423 541222. More information at www.greatyorkshireshow.org. Parking is free but dogs are not allowed.
