GAY and lesbian fashion is to be highlighted in Huddersfield.

The 2006 Kirklees Fashion project is hoping to share local gay and lesbian

couples' big day.

An exhibition is planned for Huddersfield Art Gallery to mark the first full year of legally recognised civil partnerships.

It will focus on gay and lesbian fashion, in particular fashion associated with civil ceremonies.

In previous years the project has looked at school uniforms, South Asian weddings and going-out clothes.

The aim this year is to create an exhibition exploring aspects of gay and lesbian fashion. Four new costumes will be the centrepiece.

The exhibition will be at the gallery from Wednesday, September 13, to Saturday, November 4.

Project co-ordinators Katina Bill and Ami Hallgarth, from Kirklees Council's Community History Service, are looking for same-sex couples who have held, or are planning, a civil ceremony and would like to take part in the project.

Katina said: "The introduction of civil partnerships was a momentous change for gay and lesbian couples. We want to mark that milestone with this year's Kirklees Fashion.

"We want to hear from same-sex couples who are willing to share their stories and their memories of their civil ceremony, the costumes, the accessories, the music and the photos and videos."

Any couple interested in contributing or finding out more about the project should contact Katina on 01484 223806 or email katina.bill@kirklees. gov.uk
