PEOPLE with a taste for the gruesome are being urged to help the organisers of this year's Mirfield Show.

Traditionally the big day in August has boasted a race to see who can scoff the most tripe.

But the number of food fans who could stomach the stomach lining dwindled and last year organisers switched to pork pies.

But organisers of the event on August 21 are determined to get people munching on something different.

Show committee member Karen Bullivant said: "We are looking to bring a bit of a yuk factor back in. We don't want anything disgusting, but we want something not everyone would be prepared to eat.

"We have been looking at the theme for a bush- tucker challenge, but I don't think it will include wichity grubs.

"However we have had suggestions of snails, sheep brains and jellied eels - so it could be anything."

Mrs Bullivant said people should pass their ideas to show chairman and Mirfield butcher Chris Ramsden at his shop in Huddersfield Road.
