LOVE-SHY men in the Holme Valley are proving to be backward at coming forward when it comes to finding romance.

Only a handful have signed up for the chance to meet a perfect match at a speed dating evening in Holmfirth on Monday - Valentine's Day.

Organisers are now appealing for more men to get involved after being inundated by twice the number of women needed to run the event.

Caroline Courtney, of CragRats theatre company, which is organising the event, said: "Women seem to be more confident in coming forward.

"We have had such a tremendous response from the ladies and have set up a reserve list, with enough on it to run the event again.

"I think men seem to take it too seriously and don't enter into the fun spirit of it."

The event will give 30 men the chance to meet 30 women.

The couples will get three minutes to find out as much as they can and at the end of the evening they will be given the opportunity to arrange a date.

About a dozen men - but more than 50 women - have signed up.

To book a place at the event, to be held at CragRats Cafe Bar, Dunford Road, Holmfirth, call 01484 691323.

Tickets cost £18.95, which includes champagne and a hot buffet.
