SIKHS held their first Northern Mela in Huddersfield.

The Huddersfield Sikh Youth Group organised the fair in conjunction with Yorkshire Lions Football Club in Deighton.

The gathering saw entertainment from Bhangra group Tigerstyle and a performance of the Sikh martial art gatka.

Activities included archery, football, face-painting, and fairground rides.

Visitors also enjoyed traditional food and stalls at the Yorkshire Lions’ grounds in Warrenside.

Organiser Kulvinder Bhullar said: “We’ve brought all the Sikh community together with other communities so that they are aware of the contribution that Sikhs make.

“It’s been a real experience witnessing the growth of this event – from an idea to the actual run-up and of course the mela itself.”
