It's an odd advertising tactic that might make you look twice when you're driving through Huddersfield.

Dummies have been spotted on the side of a building and up a tree as part of a bizarre way of advertising services.

JRJ Tree Services in Kirkheaton has placed a mannequin in overalls up a tree near one of its billboards, while Salesec Systems has its dummy climbing a ladder up the side of their building in Colne Bridge.

At first glance you'd be forgiven for thinking they were real men at work.

The dummy climbing the ladder could even be mistaken for a would-be burglar if you drove past it at night!

In fact, after staff at Salesec Systems placed the dummy on the side of its building, they were flooded with calls from the public telling them someone was trying to break in.

And when the dummy was lying on the roof while the company sign was installed, another worried resident called to ask if they should phone an ambulance!

A spokesman for the company said: "Its now become a bit of a local landmark.

"It's definitely helped our business — it's the best advertising we've ever done!"

James Jenkins, of JRJ Tree Services, said he put up the dummy in a bid to catch drivers' attention as they passed his billboard and had had more enquiries as a result.

"It's relevant to what I do," he said.
