TALENTED young musicians won an award at the National Music For Youth Festival.

Elland Silver Youth Band performed in the festival held at Birmingham Town Hall and won the Times Educational Service Sponsors Award for their accomplished performance.

They performed Oceans by Goff Richards, an original brass band composition which is intricate work and requires a high level of technical ability and musicality.

Musical Director Samantha Harrison said: “The band have worked really hard in rehearsals to perform the musical detail.

“It was a joy to conduct them on stage, they really made the music come to life.

“The feedback and award was the icing on the cake.”

The band are now keeping their fingers crossed for an invitation to the Schools’ Proms at the Royal Albert Hall in November.
