A COUPLE who met on a blind date at Holmfirth cinema have celebrated their golden wedding.

Geoffrey and Sheila Peace, of Royds Avenue, New Mill, married on Bonfire Night 1955 at Wooldale Chapel.

The couple, have three daughters and six grandchildren and celebrated with a family party at the Crossroads Inn, New Mill.

Mr Peace, 73, was a builder for Elliots of Lepton when the couple first met and ended his career in the trade as a building inspector for Kirklees Council.

He is secretary of New Mill 94 Football Club and a life member of Huddersfield and District AFL.

He is also a member of New Mill Probus Club and the veterans' bowling club.

He did his National Service with the Duke of Wellington's Regiment in Germany and is a member of Huddersfield District Army Veterans' Association.

Mrs Peace, 71, was a mender at Lawtons of New Mill and was later a confectionery van driver in Holmfirth and a helper with Wooldale playgroup.
