A LINTHWAITE man is hoping that his cycling skills will be up to scratch.

Simon Loftus, of Stones Lane, joined 200 other cyclists for the 87km London to Brighton bike ride which started on Saturday in aid of the British Skin Foundation.

He is hoping his efforts have raised £300 for the skin disease research charity. Taking part was an easy decision for Simon as son Sam, nine, suffers from eczema.

Simon said: “I decided to do the cycle ride to raise money and awareness of eczema. It’s still amazing how many children think they can catch it from Sam and run away from him.

Joining Simon on the ride will be his brother, as well as Sam, who will do the last 10 kilometres.

Simon added: “Sam was born with eczema and had to be wet wrapped for the first few years of his life, which was hard for all of us.

“Thanks to the many creams and informationŠ we’ve been given, his skin is not too bad these days, but can flare up now and again and he constantly scratches which leaves him open to infections.”
