PEOPLE are being encouraged to be lyrical about what matters most to them in a project being run by Kirklees Libraries in conjunction with Opera North.

Three full-day workshops in Huddersfield Art Gallery aim to inspire people to create song words.

Working with a poet, a composer and an opera singer, participants will learn how to put their thoughts, memories and reflections to music.

They will be able to create new songs based on their favourite stories, books, lyrics or poems.

Rommi Smith, poet and Kirklees Libraries reading development officer, who is co-ordinating the project, said: "If you're a singer or interested in singing and learning more about songwriting, then these workshops are for you."

The workshops are being held today and on April 2 and 16.

Aimed at adults and young people aged 12 and over, the workshops run from 10am to 3.15pm.

Each costs £2 per adult, £1 per child.

Places have to be booked in advance and will be allocated on a first-come first-served basis.
