A BAND appearing at the McAlpine Stadium summer concert have been rocked by the departure of one of its singers.

Irishman Peter Smith has quit Phixx to concentrate on other projects.

It is not yet known if he will be replaced.

The boy band are on the bill at the McAlpine in Huddersfield on July 31 with Blue, Girls Aloud and Darius.

Phixx's line-up includes Greetland singer Nikk Mager, a former student at Huddersfield Grammar School.

In a statement Peter Smith said: "As you probably all know, I've been ill and stuck in bed in Ireland for a while.

"That gave me a lot of time to think, and I've had an opportunity based on some solo songs I've written which is hard for any singer to refuse."

His departure has sparked rumours that Phixx are splitting up.

But a spokeswoman for the band said: "Phixx are working on the release of the next UK single and looking forward to our first releases in Europe and Japan."

She said the band wished Peter the best of luck and were still his mates.
