A HUDDERSFIELD church is holding a sponsored hymn sing to help pay for a new organ.

The event is going ahead at Parkwood Methodist Church on May 1, and anybody who likes singing is invited to join the choir.

A total of £1,000 still needs to be raised to pay for the German-made classical organ in use since the beginning of the year.

Church spokesman Ken Rothery said: "We chose it rather than a modern keyboard as Parkwood has always been a musical church.

"We still have a choir of 16 members."

Sponsors are being asked to pay for their favourite hymns to be sung at the May 1 event.

Two sessions lasting 75 minutes each are being held, from 10.45am and from 1pm. Singers wanting to join both sessions are asked to bring sandwiches for the break between noon and 1pm.
