TWO sites have been earmarked for a new multi-million pound health centre for Brighouse.

Health bosses have identified land on Bradford Road or Lawson Road in the town centre as suitable for the town’s new health facility.

Around 11,000 patients are now being asked for their views about the proposals.

The current Church Lane Surgery and Rydings Hall Surgery will merge in the state-of-the-art health centre.

A public consultation was conducted and health bosses came up with a shortlist of suitable sites.

They included land off Mill Royd Street and Brighouse Ballroom as possibilities.

But land near Brighouse Sports Club and near the current health facility on Lawson Road are deemed more suitable.

Letters sent to patients says: “Over the last few months we have considered a number of other sites in the Brighouse area.

“We have worked closely with [GPs] to try and identify a site that would ensure we will be able to provide a building suitable for providing health services in a convenient location with greater ground floor access.

“We believe a new health centre in Brighouse will provide better services for our patients and the local community.”

Letters are being sent out to all patients outlining access, transport problems and space available at both sites.

The Bradford Road site will have free car parking, but it is further out of the town centre than the two current surgeries.

While the town centre site is better served by public transport, but has limited parking facilities.

Patients are now asked to attend a drop in session this Thursday, February 12, at the sports club from 6pm until 9pm to give their views.

Once a decision is made, the new health centre will boast two independent practices as well as community health services such as physiotherapy, audiology and nursing.

Some hospital services will also be provided at the new centre, such as blood testing and X-rays.
