SIX cars were involved in a pile-up as black ice hit a Marsden road.

The crash happened on Monday morning as commuters made their way into work after the weekend.

A police spokesman said the incident involved six cars which had been involved in several “minor collisions” on black ice on Chain Road in Marsden, near the White House pub.

One of the cars had crashed into a wall at the side of the road.

The cars involved were silver and red Vauxhall Astras, a blue Renault Laguna, a black Vauxhall Corsa, a grey Hyundai estate and red Nissan Micra.

There were no injuries to any driver or passenger in any vehicle.

Police were called to the incident shortly after 7.20am. There were significant tailbacks on Manchester Road into the town centre.

Highways officials were called to grit the road.
