SIX Chinese nationals have appeared in court in connection with an alleged $2m Huddersfield kidnap plot.

The four men and two women were arrested last month following raids on addresses in Newsome, Paddock and Thornton Lodge.

Ming Ming Zheng, 38; Ting Fu Guo, 26; Hang Yu, 20; Qun Xue, 25; Hong Zhu, 27; and Lizhu Guo, 35, are alleged to have taken part in a plot to abduct Chinese student Lishu Wu.

All six are facing charges of conspiracy to kidnap and allegations of blackmail over claims they issued the multimillion ransom demand.

The four men all appeared at Bradford Crown Court yesterday in prison fatigues. The two women were dressed in jeans and jumpers.

The court heard that 100 police officers had been involved in the inquiry and 30 were still working on it full time, co-operating with Chinese police.

It is understood police are still hunting for another person linked to the plot.

A provisional date for a two-month trial was given as August 18.

All the defendants will remain in custody.
