ICE-SKATING is returning to Huddersfield this winter.

Kirklees Council have announced that the Piazza’s rink will return between November 15 and Christmas Eve.

More than 15,000 people enjoyed outdoor skating last winter.

Kirklees Council’s Cabinet member for regeneration, Clr Ken Sims, welcomed the news.

He said: “Last year the ice rink was hugely popular, bringing thousands of people into the heart of the town centre.

“It was something new and exciting that the council hadn’t tried before. It was a big attraction not only for skaters but also for passers-by.

“As well as being fun it was good exercise for people. Hopefully this year the rink will be equally as successful.”

Clr Sims added: “This year we plan loyalty cards for frequent skaters, coaching and half-hour lunch-time sessions.”

Opening hours will be announced in a few weeks and advanced bookings will be from tourist information centres from mid-October.
