Charity volunteer Veronika Susedkova is retrying an Oxfam challenge to live off £1 per day.

Veronika, 27, of Slaithwaite, has been taking on the Live Below the Line challenge for a second year.

The challenge, a global fundraising campaign by the Global Poverty Project, is now in its fourth year.

Cash raised will go towards Oxfam’s poverty relief projects.

Veronika, who works for Kirkwood Hospice, said “There are 1.2 billion people living in extreme poverty across the world, including the UK.

“I wanted to take part in the challenge to demonstrate and to better understand how little people have to live on.”

Veronika will hold a discussion at Coffee Evolution, Church Street, on May 7 (6pm) where participants can share their experiences of the challenge.

She added: “‘My work in the charity sector makes me realise how important it is to raise awareness about both global and local poverty.

“Living below the line is a daily challenge for many people, yet it shouldn’t be. I hope that more awareness among the public can lead to gradual change.”
