A FORMER director of an internet technology company faces trial on a charge of being drunk in charge of a vehicle.

Jamie Whitwam, of Radcliffe Road in Slaithwaite, will appear before Kirklees magistrates next month.

The alleged offence took place near the 39-year-old’s home on November 7.

Whitwam was alleged to have been in charge of a Volvo V50 in a car park while he had 121 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of his breath.

The legal limit is 35mg.

Whitwam denies the charge.

His solicitor Bill Rawstron said that his client denied that he was in a public place.

He told magistrates that the car parking space was designated to Whitwam and could not be accessed by members of the public.

Mr Rawstron added that his client regularly sat and drank vodka in his car.

Whitwam’s trial will take place on February 27.

He was granted unconditional bail.
