COLNE Valley women who starred in two episodes of a hit TV series will be back on our screens this Christmas.

And the ladies behind Slaithwaite Meals on Wheels travelled down to the filming in style.

The businesswomen starred in two episodes of popular BBC series The Hairy Bikers in the past few weeks.

Celebrity chefs Dave Myers and Si King helped them set up a Meals on Wheels service for pensioners in the village.

And last week the women were invited down to Cannock Chase, in Staffordshire, for the filming of the Hairy Bikers Christmas Special.

Sallyanne Green, who runs Waves day care centre in Slaithwaite, said: “They sent a limo to pick us and up and take us down there. We really appreciated it.

“It was absolutely fabulous because a lot of us had never travelled in a limo before.”

The seven women left for Cannock Chase at 10.30am on Friday, arriving there at 2.30pm.

Sallyanne explained: “The Hairy Bikers wanted to thank all the people who had worked with them over the last year.

“There was a great big tee-pee set up and all the food was cooked by Mums Know Best.”

The ladies also enjoyed a live performance of a seasonal classic.

Sallyanne said: “Wizard were there and they played their hit I Wish It Could Be Christmas. The lead singer looked exactly the same as he did when the song was number one in 1972.

“It was really weird with all the Christmas lights and people wishing each other merry Christmas.”

Sallyanne said the Hairy Bikers were happy to meet the Meals on Wheels women again.

“They were pleased to see us and they said they would be back in Slaithwaite next year to see how we’re getting on,” she added.
