PLANS to build motorway rest areas for tired drivers have still not materialised - two years after being announced.
Huddersfield-based road safety group Brake today urged the Government to fulfil its promises.
A spokesman said: "The Government must act now to help prevent more lives being lost through tired driving."
The moves were announced after a sleepy motorist caused the Selby rail crash, which killed 10 people.
Proposals were announced for French- style rest areas alongside motorways, where drowsy drivers could stop for a nap.
But none have yet been built - and the Government has not even set up a pilot scheme to test the plan.
The RAC Foundation said the lack of action was a "disgrace".
A Highways Agency spokesman said: "The idea sounds straightforward, but there are issues, such as acquisition of a site, planning consent, site security and access."
