A SLIMMING chocolate which its manufacturers claim is the answer to combating obesity will no longer be marketed in the UK, the Office of Fair Trading announced.

Global DM Licensing, the company behind Slim-Choc, marketed the chocolate as a "revolutionary cure" for the obese and overweight, claiming it actually burns off fat and cellulite.

But the Office of Fair Trading raised concerns about its claims and the Hong Kong-based operation has now agreed not to advertise the product in Britain.

Christine Wade, assistant chief executive of consumer advice and trading standards, said: "After the Christmas festivities many of us would welcome miracle weight loss and could easily be tempted in this case.

"Unfortunately the only pounds people are likely to lose are from their wallets."

Customers in the UK were sent mailshots about the chocolate, telling them "the more you eat, the more you lose" and that they could potentially shed 20 pounds in 20 days.

It was said to be the first and only chocolate that burns off fat and cellulite and developed over decades of research.

The chocolate apparently works on the medical theory of "negative calories", where certain foods are so healthy that the body uses up more calories and energy eating them than they contain.
