BATLEY Frontier Club is bringing pop diva Heather Small to town to help celebrate 25 years of entertainment.

The singer will headline on May 25 as part of the club's Silver Jubilee Celebrations.

Singer/songwriter Heather first found fame in chart-topping group M People, and her statuesque vocals took on a new identity when she released `Proud', her first solo album, in 2000.

Club general manager John Hill said: "Our plan is to attract big names back to the club, and we hope Heather will be the first of a whole new generation of top artists to appear at our venue."

Batley Variety Club opened in 1967, and quickly gained an enviable world-famous reputation of attracting some of the biggest names in showbusiness- from Tom Jones to Shirley Bassey.

Unfortunately, the club could not sustain such dizzy heights and fell back to earth in 1981, finding a new face as the Frontier Nightclub.

Local businessmen bought the club last year and decided to reinstate the magical sparkle of the good old days, bringing back entertainment acts - and the place is now more popular than ever.
