FIRE chiefs have welcomed price cuts that could save lives.
Lloyds Pharmacy are offering smoke alarms for just £1.99 at their stores in High Street, Huddersfield and Carr Lane, Slaithwaite.
The offer is part of a not-for-profit fire alarm campaign.
West Yorkshire Assistant chief fire officer David Monks said: "Fire killed more than 300 people and injured another 9,000 across England and Wales in 2002 and yet 24% of households still don't have a smoke alarm.
"To put it bluntly a person's chance of dying in a house fire is halved if the property has a working alarm."
The offer last until August 3.
