The exposed Woodhead Pass above Holmfirth was closed early this morning after a lorry jack-knifed in treacherous conditions.

Overnight snow and ice combined to make driving difficult and several vehicles got stuck and had to wait for help.

Police closed the road in both directions for a time and queues built up. The road was back open just before 8am as daylight came and conditions improved.

The lorry overturned between the Flouch roundabout and the A6024 Holmfirth turn-off. The Snake Pass was also closed due to the snow.

Elsewhere, there was more snow on higher ground.

The hills around Hade Edge and Holmfirth were hit, with a covering across the fields and side roads.

A car crashed on the Thick Hollins Road close to the junction with the A635 Greenfield Road, near to The Ford Inn, at 6am after skidding on snow.

Police warned drivers to take extra care on the moorland roads.

Queensbury, near Bradford, had a significant covering. There were reports that the A647 Halifax Road between Crooked Lane and Chapel Street was particularly badly affected and drivers were warned to be extra careful.
