THERE'S more snow on the way for Huddersfield, say forecasters.

As many people travelled to work in snow showers this morning the Met Office put Kirklees Council Highways Service on red alert.

Experts say there could be up to 10cm of snow on higher ground from today through to tomorrow.

"There will be wintry showers across the rest of the district. The cold weather will continue, with snow showers everywhere until Sunday.

"Then there is forecast to be a period of frosty, clear nights," said a council spokes- woman.

Gritting teams will again be out in force across the district, to make sure main routes stay open.

During last week's cold snap the council's gritting teams gritted priority roads 15 times and used about 3,000 tonnes of salt.

Two roads above Holmfirth - the A6024 Woodhead Road and the A635 Greenfield Road - are still closed by snow.
