TEACHERS were transformed into superstars at Shelley High School.

Pop stars past and present lined up for the Stars In Your Eyes special.

Class acts Atomic Kitten, Freddie Mercury, Bananarama, Morrissey, Joe Strummer, of the Clash, and Elvis strutted their stuff on stage before an adoring audience.

The star-studded event was organised by a team of A-level students at the school. Part of their course involved them in planning and running an event. They have been involved in the show since October.

"It's been a laugh, but very stressful at times. We just wanted it all to go well," said Stephen Sweeney, 19.

The team comprised Stephen, fellow students Katie Smith, Daniel Glover, Ben Froggatt, Charlotte Stephenson, Liz Wrenn, Sarah Mear, Emma Farrell, Charlotte Johnson and Kelly Butterfield and teacher Louise Ashton, who was also in Atomic Kitten.

Student Austin Brook was Matthew Kelly and students Ian Savage and Amy O'Neill performed a modern duet during the voting. The winner was Freddie Mercury, played by science teacher Richard Tipler.

The teachers have been advised not to give up their day jobs!
