SCHOOLS in Huddersfield can get free sports equipment, thanks to a town centre shop.

A Sport Reward voucher scheme has been launched by schoolwear and sports retailer Rawcliffes Intersport, of Byram Street.

Customers will get one voucher for every £10 spent on uniform or sportswear.

They can then exchange the vouchers for sports equipment for their schools.

Rawcliffes have launched the scheme in response to recent worries about growing childhood obesity.

Shop manager Ian Robertson said: "Everyone is saying that our children need to be more active.

"But at the end of the day, schools do not have any more money to spend on new sports equipment."

Fifty vouchers will buy a football and 1,000 will kit out a soccer team. Schools can register by calling Claire Holmes on 01943 463875.
