EMMERDALE actors swapped filming for football to take part in a Huddersfield charity event.

Actors from the soap opera, which is filmed near Leeds, took part in a five-a-side tournament at Leeds Road Playing Fields in aid of Leukaemia Research on Sunday.

Ben Freeman, who plays Scott Windsor, Anthony Lewis, alias teenager Marc Reynolds, James Hooton, who is docile Sam Dingle and Luke Tittensor, who plays young delinquent Darren Eden, were in the team.

They were joined by Luke's twin, Elliott, also an actor, and some friends to form the Emmerdale Allstars team.

Anthony, playing in goal, said: "We play quite a lot of charity matches. We also play every Sunday in a five-a-side league. It can be hard fitting the games in.

"We've won a few, but recently things haven't been so good."

The Allstars did make it through to the final - but lost to a team from Kirkheaton.

The Emmerdale Allstars competed against 15 other teams.

Most were local five-a-side teams, but others had travelled from all over Yorkshire.

Each team paid to enter the contest. Further cash was raised from sales of programmes, plus a raffle, games, stalls and children's rides.

All the money goes to Leukaemia Research's work, which involves studying cancers including leukaemia, lymphoma and blood cancers.

Event organiser Jayne Cook, of Leukaemia Research, said: "This is the first time we have had a match. Usually we just have an annual ball. We've had so much interest this could become an annual thing."

The annual Leukaemia Research ball will be at Berties at Elland in October.
