A VILLAGE football team has paid tribute to its dedicated secretary, who died after a battle with cancer.

Molly Booth was secretary of Grange Moor AFC for 28 years.

She lost her fight with cancer last year and in her memory her son Michael and other members of Grange Moor AFC and Flockton AFC committees arranged a charity football match.

Grange Moor beat Flockton 4-2.

Afterwards both teams enjoyed an evening disco at The Grange pub at Grange Moor.

There was also a raffle and auction, with lots including a signed Leeds United shirt.

The event raised a total of £2,030; £900 will go to Kirkwood Hospice at Dalton, £900 to the Yorkshire Cancer Research charity and £230 to Marie Curie Cancer Care.

The organisers presented the cash at The Grange to Melanie Crossley, North Kirklees fundraiser for Kirkwood Hospice, and John Shaw, from Yorkshire Cancer Research.

Ms Crossley said “Thanks to the generosity of our supporters all care at Kirkwood Hospice is provided free to patients.”
