ENGLAND football star Wayne Rooney has signed a picture of himself by a Meltham artist.

The piece, called England Lions, features the Manchester United striker alongside international team-mates David Beckham, Joe Cole, Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard and Michael Owen.

Rooney signed the print and returned it to Darren Baker, who has now given it for auction to the Prince’s Trust charity.

Last year the footballer bought a painting of Grand Prix racing driver Lewis Hamilton by the Meltham artist.

Darren – a Man Utd fan – said: “It’s great that Wayne Rooney is a fan of mine. I’ve got a few of my pictures on footballers’ walls.”

And Darren is displaying more of his work in London this week. Half the 20 pieces are on an Olympic theme, including equestrianism and athletics.

The show lasts until Friday at Lloyds Bank 222 and several past and present athletes are expected to attend.

The exhibition is organised by Lloyds Bank, one of the sponsors of the London 2012 Olympics.
