FOOTBALL-MAD teacher Hadi Malik is bound for the Big Apple to take part in an international tournament.
Mr Malik, PE teacher and school sports coordinator at Moor End Technology College, has flown to New York with a team of British Muslims to take part in a competition for ethnic minority teams.
Sides from the USA, Canada, France, Italy and Germany are among those signed up for the round robin event.
The seven-a-side competition, over this weekend, takes place at the New York Knicks basketball complex in Manhattan.
Speaking before he left, Liverpool fan Mr Malik, 28, who lives in Bradford, said: “I can’t wait. It’s a fantastic opportunity.”
The father of one, who has coached football in the USA, was selected for the team following local and national trials.
Moor End headteacher Jane Acklam said: “We are very proud that a teacher from the school has been selected and wish Mr Malik and his team every success.”
