A FOOTBALL tournament raised more than £500 for the Danny Scott Appeal.

Danny, 23, of Marsh suffered serious spinal injuries while playing for Moldgreen Amateur Rugby League Club in January, 2004.

The seven-a-side event was the idea of businessman Nadio Granata and the staging of the matches was organised by Chris Hellawell, secretary of Huddersfield Sunday League side the Irish Centre.

The competition was held on the all-weather surface at Leeds Road Playing Fields. Team members paid £10 each to take part.

The tournament was won by Huddersfield Sunday League side St Patrick's, who beat the Irish Centre on penalties in the final.

A secondary competition, for teams knocked out earlier, was won by a team put together by Mr Granata, who said he hoped to make the tournament an annual event.
