NEARLY twice as much rain as the monthly average fell on Huddersfield in September.

The 115mm (about 4½in) of rain – compared with an average of 61mm – made it the wettest September since Huddersfield University’s records began in 1990.

Most of the wet weather came at the start of the month, when there were nine straight days when it rained.

More than a third of the rain – 39mm – fell in one day, September 5. Towards the end of the month there were 12 dry days in a row.

The School of Applied Sciences’ figures show that September was also cooler than usual.

The average temperature was 13.87°C (56°F), compared with the previous September averages of 14.24°C (58°F).

Temperatures peaked at 21.5°C (71°F) on September 20 and hit a low of 6.7°C (44°F) on the 17th
