A SOLDIER who has just completed his basic training will be visiting his old school.

And Gary Mitchell, aged 21, from Elland, will also be chatting to potential new recruits at Huddersfield Army Careers Information Office this week.

Gary will be joining Prince Harry’s regiment, the Blues And Royals, later this year.

He was educated at Brighouse High School and will be at the school on Wednesday and Thursday this week.

Gary said: “My life has changed so much since leaving school. When I left I couldn’t even drive a car and now I can drive Scimitar tanks! The challenge of completing my training has given me the confidence that I can do whatever I set my mind to.’’

The Blues and Royals regiment forms part of The Household Cavalry and is currently based in Windsor.

When not driving tanks, Gary will be on horseback carrying out ceremonial duties in London.

Warrant Officer Nick McConnell from the Huddersfield Army Careers Information Office said: “For anyone interested in an army career, speaking to soldiers like Gary can provide a fantastic insight into what army life is really like.’’
