A YOUNG Huddersfield soldier has received a medal from the Prince Of Wales.

Former Colne Valley High School pupil Jake Rix, 19, is pictured receiving his Iraq Operational Medal from the prince during a special parade for the Royal Dragoon Guards in Munster, north-west Germany.

Trooper Rix and his colleagues received the medals after completing a six-month peacekeeping tour in the Basra area.

He is a gunner on a Challenger 2 tank and since joining the Army in 2001 he has also served in Germany, Canada and Belgium.

Before joining the Army, Trooper Rix worked at Linthwaite firm Thornton And Ross.
