A SON claims his mum had precious jewellery stolen from her while she lay dying in hospital.

When Andrew Hinchliffe, of Dalton, arrived to pick up his mum’s things after she passed away, he said the jewellery was missing.

Andrew told the Examiner his mum Jean, 81, was wearing three necklaces and a watch when she arrived at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary on December 20 last year.

Andrew said: “I think it’s disgusting. “In between moving from A&E to a ward someone must have done this.

“To steal money from someone who is dying in a hospital bed is absolutely disgusting.

“I wonder how many other people this has happened to.”

Andrew, 53, said the jewellery had sentimental value and he was going to give it to his niece.

He said: “I’m fed up of going up there and paying for the parking and then being fobbed off. I never get any proper answers.”

Andrew said the jewellery is worth five to six hundred pounds and one of the pendants had been in the family for generations.

A spokesman for Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust said: “An investigation is currently under way and when it is completed we will be contacting Mr Hinchliffe.

“If he has any concerns we would urge him to contact us.”
