BIG name record label Song/BMG is on the hunt for young people with top singing and dancing talents – in Huddersfield.

A casting session is to be held at the Lawrence Batley Theatre tomorrow, from 5pm to 7pm, to find multi-talented dancers and singers for a street-style pop group linked to Simon Cowell’s hugely successful label.

The casting, held by Huddersfield agent Nicola Topping, is for males and females aged 15 to 20 to be in a three-strong group.

Nicola said: “This is going to be a huge and very exciting project with a major record label for the chosen members, who will need to be available immediately for a long term commitment to the group.”

They must be ‘athletic and aspirational’ with an ‘street’ look and an edgy attitude.

Performers must be able to dance and sing.

The casting team are interested in seeing singers with an urban, soulful sound as well as B-Boys or B-Girls, freerunners, parkourists, breakers, lockers, poppers and krumpers.

B-Boys, B-Girls and breakers are people involved in breakdancing.

Lockers perform a hip hop street dance style focusing on upper body movements.

Poppers also practice a style of street dance which combines precise, jerking movements to the rhythm of music.

Krumping is an American street dance which involves free-flowing, expressive, highly energetic moves involving the arms, head, legs, chest and feet.

Freerunners perform daring, acrobatic movements using buildings in towns and cities as their platform.

Parkour is often used in freerunning – it is a French discipline which involves perfecting the body’s movement to get over obstacles from one point to another as smoothly, efficiently and quickly as possible.

Huddersfield will not be the only town on the casting hit list.

Over the next few weeks, the hunt will go nationwide.

There will be sessions across the country with northern cities involved, including Manchester, Liverpool and Leeds.
