SHE may have been fired by Sir Alan Sugar – but Apprentice contestant Sophie Kain is set to talk about her experience in Huddersfield.
Sophie Kain (pictured) heard the dreaded words ‘You’re Fired’ in the last series of the hit BBC show.
Sir Alan Sugar fired her after she refused to sell lollipops to children, saying she believed the sweets were not value for money.
She has since launched her own career on the back of her success on the show.
And she will be the guest speaker at an open lecture at Huddersfield University, where she will tell all to future Apprentices.
John Thompson from the enterprise network at the university, said: “Sophie is very keen to encourage everybody, especially young people and students, to give something back to society and has lots of ideas about how they can do this.
“As a PhD holder in quantum physics, she understands the world of students as well as the world of business and has valuable advice for everyone interested in entrepreneurship and making a difference in the world.”
Dr Kain said she never expected to win the programme, describing it as a “once in a lifetime experience which will, at the very least, make a great pub story one day”.
But she came away from the programme with a desire to pursue a more meaningful career path.
She has since launched her own website which gives people the chance to rate or slate any product or service, and is also involved in an enterprise enabling people throughout Europe to support locally-run and grass-root projects.
Dr Kain will be speaking at the Huddersfield University’s Firth Street lecture theatre on Thursday starting at 7.30pm.
The event is open to the public and for more information contact Glenys Smith on 01484 473 765.
