A DOCTOR’S surgery has apologised after patients were sent a newsletter containing the email addresses of all the other recipients.
The Grange Group Practice in Fartown sent out an email with news about the practice to people who had registered to receive it.
But patient Valerie Croft complained after the message arrived with the contact addresses for all the other people who had signed up.
She said: “Imagine my horror and disbelief to see that each recipient of the newsletter was listed – a whole A to Z list of patients’ email addresses.
“This must breach every code of patient confidentiality.
“I feel the very least I can do is to inform and warn as many people as I can not to be so naively trusting as myself that my GP would not share my email address with other patients.
“I have to ask where and with whom they have also broadcast my details without my agreement.”
David Anderson, from the practice, said steps had been taken to ensure it did not happen again.
He said: “We have apologised to the patient for sending out their email addresses when we distributed our practice news-letter.
“It was done unintentionally and we now have processes in place to make sure this does not happen again.
“No patient information was sent out in the email other than their email address.
“The practice is committed to communicating regularly with its patients about local developments as well as giving out health information and advice through its monthly newsletter and takes on board all feedback received.”
