TWO people have started new careers as countryside rangers through a local scheme funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund.
The scheme which is run by Pennine Prospects works to prepare young people for a future working in the great outdoors.
Former businessman, Charles Bailie has hung up his suit for good now and despite a salary drop he’s never been happier.
The same is true of Katie Quantrell who used to work in the office of an ecology consultancy but now spends her days as a trainee warden at the Marsden Moor Estate.
Charles said: “This is an excellent scheme and I can’t think of a better way of preparing for employment in this sector. I’ve been here a month and already I’ve done so much; from building bird boxes to drawing up a management plan to promote biodiversity.”
