PATIENTS are to get a chance to vote for their favourite health workers.

As part of the Nursing Standard Awards, anyone who has used the services provided by the South West Yorkshire partnership NHS Foundation Trust will have the opportunity to nominate staff for outstanding nursing practice.

The trust is asking people to vote for a nurse, midwife, health visitor, or healthcare assistant who has made a difference to their lives or the life of a loved one for the Claire Rayner Patient’s Choice Award.

Last year, Nursing Standard received almost 200 nominations putting forward nurses, patients and families for this award, which is named in honour of popular agony aunt and patient’s champion Claire Rayner who died in October 2010.

Director of nursing, clinical governance and safety for the trust, Noreen Young said: “Nurses strive to give the best possible care to their patient.

“This is an excellent opportunity for local people to say thank you to someone who has made a real difference to their lives.

“Our organisation is full of unsung heroes who work tirelessly to improve the lives of others.

“This award gives people the chance to say thank you to a nurse, midwife, health visitor or healthcare assistant and recognise the vital work they do every day.”
