A WIND turbine plan has been won on an appeal to the Planning Inspectorate.

Andy Mellor, of North Forest, Forest Hill Road, Sowood, had his initial application rejected by Calderdale councillors in 2011 on grounds it was inappropriate development in green belt.

Mr Mellor referred it to the Inspectorate who ruled “wind turbines do not feature among the types of new building listed as not inappropriate”.

The Planning Inspectorate said it could be seen from Barkisland and Stainland “and to that extent the loss of openness would be tangible”.

But he added: “The loss would, in my view, be a very limited one due to the modest size of the turbine and the slender profile of the mast on which it would stand as seen in the totality of the generally extensive views.”

Mr Mellor is granted permission for one wind turbine on a 24.8m monopole mast.
