A COUPLE who enjoyed a whirlwind romance in Belgium are celebrating 60 years arm in arm.

Duncan Mclellan, 79, met his sweetheart Albertine Vanhoucke, 84, at the end of the Second World War when he was posted in Ostend.

The happy couple tied the knot on December 15, 1945 and spent the next three years living in Albertine's home town.

They had two children - a son Jimmy and a daughter Jean who tragically died aged just 16 days.

Soon Mr and Mrs Mc- lellan returned to Duncan's native Argyll, in Scotland. After welcoming another son, Danny, and two daughters Maureen and Ann, they left Scotland for Huddersfield in 1955.

Duncan worked at ICI and took early retirement after 26 years with the company. Albertine devoted her life to her children.

The couple, of Sorbus Way, Lepton, are planning a family gathering back in the Belgian seaside town in which they met to celebrate their anniversary.
