YORKSHIRE Sculpture Park celebrates its 30th birthday next week with a series of special events.

The celebrations at the park at West Bretton kick off on Sunday with the first of five ticket-only twilight readings by poet and YSP visiting artist, Simon Armitage.

He will read new poems inspired by the park and written especially for the occasion.

Four performances are sold out, but limited tickets remain for the final, celebratory reading at 5.30pm on September 29 in the Longside Gallery.

Those attending will each receive a signed limited-edition copy of Armitage’s new work.

Call 01924 832642 for the remaining tickets at £12.

Also this Sunday the Friends of Yorkshire Sculpture Park hold a family Treasure Trail across the Park.

Participants are invited to follow clues, collect a special stamps and claim a birthday prize.

The event marks the relaunch of the sound sculpture Playground by Greyworld.

The sculpture is sited in an iron dome thought to be a late 18th century aviary or pergola.

It plays gentle sounds and melodies unique to the weight and walk of the user.
